  • Mire a americanos estúpidos: It's called cause and effect. If bad intelligence caused George to invade Iraq, and then George passes along intelligence to the effect that planes travelling to the U.S. from Great Britain will be used as weapons, should the intelligence be treated with a grain of salt? The general secretary of the British Airline Pilots' Association, Jim McAuslan, said: "We have to take all these intelligence briefings very seriously but we are asking the British government to examine the strength and validity of them."These cancellations were made because of US intelligence and the airline is quite right to cancel the flights."But we are pressing the government to examine these claims from the USA, particularly as President (George) Bush has called for an examination of the quality of intelligence before and during the Iraq war."His concerns were echoed by terrorism specialist Simon Reeve, author of the book on al-Qaeda, The New Jackals."I think some of the evidence, some of the intelligence surrounding these threats is tenuous to say the least," he said.In essence, the U.S. has now lost any shred of credibility it was clinging to. This is just getting embarrassing. Who am I kidding? It ceased being embarrassing months ago, and is now mortifying.
  • You love mangoes: You know...Men at Work may very well be one of the worst movies ever made.
  • Parting is such sweet sorrow: I was a little puzzled when George proposed a large increase in arts funding. Traditionally, Republicans have opposed funding the NEA. Apparently conservatives don't get progressive and experimental art, and don't understand the need to fund it. And, of course, I was also puzzled because the deficit is massive. As much as I'd like to see the NEA be funded with all the cash they can handle, with the Republican spend spend spend without the money to pay for anything agenda it really doesn't make any sense. Basic programs are being cut. Congress has refused to extend unemployment benefits for any person who will exhaust their state benefits. That means poverty and homelessness are going to sky rocket this year -- almost two million people are set to lose their unemployment benefits in the first half of this year. With the current administration's plan that is creating jobs at a sizzling rate of 20 jobs per state per month, it doesn't exactly seem like anything is going to get better. It pains me to say it, but there are many more important things that need extra funding right now. If the U.S. weren't out invading countries willy nilly and trying to force its citizens into a specific model of morality, we could maybe afford to make things better here at home -- money for child care, money for arts, money for education. Saying, "put it on my tab" is not the solution. But, for the sake of argument, let's assume that the deficit isn't raging out of control and we have all the money we need. I mentioned yesterday that I feared any increase to the arts would come with a catch. While it isn't necessarily a religious catch, there are conditions. Bush intends this money to be spent on classical arts appreciation. You know, I love art. Going to the Louvre last year was an amazing experience. I love Shakespeare. I appreciate jazz. But that is not the only kind of art that's worth loving. It's nice that George wants lots of people to see the work of classic American artists, but what about contemporary American artists? What about the artists now who will become tomorrow's classic American artists? Don't they deserve some encouragement? It's true that you can't move forward without knowing where you've been, but you also can't be permenantly stuck in 1952.
  • An offer you can't refuse: So you might remember my bitter bitching about an upcoming staff retreat at work. Well, the time is neigh, yo. Boredom is imminent. After dealing with crap that doesn't apply to me and being forced to engage in organized fun all day, I'm going to need something interesting and funny to come home to. Anyone feel like guest posting on Friday, February 6? Here's the deal: post twice within the hours of midnight-8pm EST. You can post about anything, but I would appreciate it if you didn't talk explicitly about kiddie porn and stuff like that. Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?
  • Naptime: Have you ever just woken up and been so disgusted and saddened by all the news that you just don't even want to acknowledge that it's happening? That's me today. I got out of bed a little while ago, sat down with a cup of tea and the paper and was so disturbed I had to put the paper down. Too many people died today. The current administration is fleecing Americans so someone has a few new ineffective toys. There's more. There's always more. I need to go back to bed.

But I must say, it is the little things that are making me happy today: Warm jeans out of the dryer Puppy kisses Good coffee and lots of it The fact that it's Friday Postponed Jury Duty Fully moisturized with wicked awesome lotion No assbags have called yet And especially this.

  • Come To Butthead: Wayne has been working on using "The Force". He stares so hard.. willing, demanding that things happen. He wills the back door open, he wills the food to jump off my plate into his mouth, he wills the "good treats" off the top of the fridge, rather than the bland puppy biscuit crapola she keeps feeding me.
  • Judge This: We are addicted to Judge Judy. She should be the president of this country. She warrants space on our TiVo. We watch her religiously after work each day to unwind and laugh at all the dumb people. It makes me feel good. I want to hire her to be my liason to the world. Customer Service Rep: "Ma'am, is there anything I can do to get you to not cancel your card?" Liason Judy: "IS THERE SOMETHING WRONG WITH YOU MADAM? I SAID CANCEL IT." That would be the life.

  • Stupid Asshole DVD player: The last time I used my dvd player was over Christmas vacation, which was what, about a month ago? It worked just fine. I rented a few dvd's tonight because I'm starting to get sick, and it's cold out. I figured I'd just stay in. My god damn dvd player doesn't work. How the hell could it not work between Christmas and now? I haven't moved it, I haven't touched it. Hell, I barely even looked at it. It's not like I've been using it for batting practice. Sonofabitch.
  • I just couldn't resist.: I went and made my own freaky botox character. You can view it here. And because I just couldn't resist..... heh.
  • Let's get drunk and screw: I'm opening up a can of worms here. I know, I know, you're surprised. I've done it before, when I told you guys that I just didn't get Monty Python. I don't really even like MP. You know what else I don't like? Jimmy Buffet, and Kids in the Hall. That's right, I said it. I don't like Jimmy Buffet. In fact, his music actually grates on my nerves. I'm prepared for the hate mail.
  • I'm going to love him, hug him, and squeeze him and call him George: I found out that a friend of mine took a pretty nasty spill on her back deck while it was snowing on Tuesday. Enough to render her unconcious for about 20-25 minutes. Mind you, it was well below freezing, and it was snowing. I'm sure she didn't have her coat on because she walked all of 6 feet to call her dog. I know I don't wear my coat when I take the dog outside to the backyard for less than 2 minutes. Apparently, she whacked her head pretty good. She damaged a couple of teeth, ended up with a concussion, and stitches in her head. She lives by herself, and not really in an urban area. It's a development, but spread out. I think her one saving grace was her dog. I don't know how long she'd have been out there, if her dog wasn't out there licking her face. It's like that commercial that Mekhi Phifer does on Animal Planet, "You think you know dogs?" They never cease to amaze me.
  • Softens hands while you do dishes.: There are certain everyday things in life that some people have simply never done. A lot of people I know have never pumped their own gas. In New Jersey, it's illegal to. Some people, just have no desire to learn. I find that funny, because pumping gas is so easy. Then again, it's cold as ass crack outside today, and I'd be completely content with not being able to pump my own gas on a day like today. In fact, it's hard to find a station that has a full serve pump around here. Anyway, I digress. There are a few things that I've never really done. I've never learned to drive a stick shift, I've never in my life had to mow the lawn. Shit, I've never even started a lawn mower. I've also always had a dishwasher all my life, therefore, have never had to wash dishes. Until recently. All I have to say is fuck that shit. I'm realizing that I suck at it, and it's a never ending cycle. It makes me appreciate having a dishwasher that's for sure. I know you're thinking, how can you suck at washing dishes? Believe me, you can. It's something that mundane that I could do without. What have you never learned to do, or have no desire to learn to do?

What is this?

A site to draw traffic to the most original, thought provoking, and interesting webloggers in the Philadelphia region.

Who is providing this and why?

My name is Karl Martino and I wanted to try and get the Philadelphia webloggers I read to read one another, and provide a way for others to find them. Simple as that. Philly has some of the greatest webloggers in nation and they deserve exposure.

What am I looking at?

This is an automated news page that brings to you headlines from weblogs I think you should know about. It is made possible by the wizardry of RSS and the feeds webloggers provide in that format.

The center of the page highlights a few webloggers prominently, and will change regularly. The left features headlines (when provided by available RSS feeds), and the rest of my favorite Philly webloggers. Following that is a list of Philadelphia links you may find useful.

Note to Philly webloggers: If you are providing RSS and I am not showing your headlines, please contact me at .

How do I get included?

E-mail me and if I like your site, I'll add you. It is expected that you will link back to this page. If you can use this image - , even better.
